An End, of Sorts

After last night’s Eddie’s Attic show in Atlanta, I was crazy tired. Wrung out, like an old dishrag. I’m sure I looked just like that dishrag. My vocal cords were shredded. I went and ate a salad with some chicken in it at an anonymous fern bar. Sitting alone and [...]

If you had told me back in the Spring how busy Summer would be, I might have told you to dream on. [...]

home, then away

Tommy and I got home late Monday afternoon, dog tired and happy with the UK and European tour.
I was up at dawn on Tuesday, prepping for the Rodney Crowell/Chely Wright show at TPAC in Nashville that night. Load in was 8:45 AM, followed by soundcheck and rehearsal. We went onstage that night around [...]

back to nashville

Tommy and I flew into Nashville yesterday late afternoon. Very tired. Very happy with the tour. I’m up at dawn, brushing up on songs I’m playing at a benefit tonight in Nashville—http://www.rwandr.org/ —Reading, Writing and Rhythm, put together by Chely Wright. Very good cause, great folks performing—I’ll be playing with Chely [...]

Europe Tour Diary, pt 2

5/26
The What’s Cookin’ gig was really good; we’ve gotten used to playing London now. Where it used to be intimidating, now it is another place we play. We’re looser about the big city shows, less self-concious. Much better that way.
5/27
Drove to Leicester after London show. Got in about 3:30 AM. [...]

Daddy Tour Diary Pt 1

5/16
Played Dragon Park Summer Music series with Daddy in Nashville. John Deaderick couldn’t make it, but we had a good show anyway. The bagpipers played, the parade went on despite the rain. At some point, we were playing under the awning and the crowd was just out there in the pouring rain. [...]

From Soho Down to Brighton

Tommy and I arrived in the UK yesterday early morning. Flew into London Gatwick and took the train to just north of Brighton, and then took a cab to the hotel. Crashed out for a few glorious hours’ sleep, and then the Brighton promoter, Mike, picked us up and took us to the [...]

It’s All So Much

So much wonder, beauty, devastation and destruction. This weekend I played for friendly, interested people who listened close and applauded loudly. I ran on a Gulf beach that has only recently gotten clean of oil and tar—-and that was thanks to Hurricane Ike. I spent a fun night with friends in Mississippi [...]
