DADDY In The Corn

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

DADDY has played two shows so far on our Midwest run: Knucklehead’s in Kansas City Thursday night and Rasmussen’s garage concert last night. We played great both nights, the audiences really enjoyed themselves both nights. What more can a rock n roll band ask for?

i guess we can ask for two more great shows before we head home. Tonight—-Halloween—-we’re at Byron’s in Pomeroy, Iowa. Tomorrow, too. If you are in striking distance, you should come to Byron’s. The music will be great, and the bar is too cool for words. Pomeroy is a little artists’ community smack in the middle of rural Iowa.

Either way, we will be there tearing it up.

For a Friend

Friday, October 30th, 2009

A lot of us lost a friend yesterday. His funeral was held in Mobile. I was in Nashville when I got the bad news, and I was headed to Kansas City and Iowa to play shows. It was too late for me to cancel on my friends who are up here playing music with me, so I missed the funeral. I understand that the eulogist quoted a song called “Godsend”. That’s moving to me, humbling. We lost a kindhearted man, a family man, a music lover, a man with a smile that made you forget your troubles. We all wish we’d been able to keep him around for a while longer. I’m reminded of one of my favorite songs:

Man takes his cane to a waterfall
Has a vision
Starts talking baby talk
Understood by a girl in Peru
We read about it in the daily news
Lines of poetry
Revealing mysteries
Still some can’t swim
Jesus walked on the water
He turned the water into wine
He went down to the drunkards
To tell them everything is fine
You R loved
You R loved
You R really loved
I cannot decide
Who should die or live
I do my best to forgive
Falling backwards in the eventide
Listening at the riverside
Lines of poetry…

Victoria Williams wrote that song.

Goodbye, David. Karen, Sarah, Taylor, Samantha—-You are loved.
