RIPs…

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Rest in Peace Cousin Jane —- The first female lawyer to practice in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Always kind and smart as a whip.

—————

Rest in Peace Les Paul —- All around genius. Seek out and watch the PBS American Masters Series about him and be inspired.

Rest in Peace Jim Dickinson —- Great Memphis musician. Producer of Big Star, The Replacements. Member of Mud Boy and the Neutrons. Session man for the Rolling Stones and Ry Cooder. Giver of glorious sweaty bear hugs.

Rest in Peace Mike Seeger — Folk boom icon. Banjo man. A hero of Bob Dylan’s. Member of the great New Lost City Ramblers.

The world is a better place because of these guys. They didn’t pollute any rivers or bomb any cities. They made people smile, laugh, dance all over their problems.

Thank you fellows.

You set the bar way too high for us mere mortals.

There’s a DADDY show in Nashville: August 29th, Music City Barbecue Festival! Full band, with special guests Bryan Owings on drums and Tim Marks on bass.

I’ll be at Strawberry Music Festival in Camp Mather, California Labor Day Weekend. Also playing with Rodney Crowell there and in Modesto the next day (Sept 4-5).

See you there.

Youtube from Auburn

Thanks to Birmingham Steve, there are some youtube videos up from Auburn, 8/7/09. Nice version of “Slide it In”. Go to you tube, search Birmingham Steve. He’s the man, as far as rock n roll youtube goes.

We are starting to ramp up activity to get my new album ready for release early next year. Very exciting.

Here is the link to Rolling Stone’s article about the upcoming Jimmy Buffett CD. It mentions and quotes songs I wrote with Jimmy:

Bonnie Bishop’s new CD is climbing the Americana Radio charts!

Hoping to get all Annika Fehling’s mixes tweaked up and finished this week.

DADDY is playing Aug 29th at Riverfront Park for the Music City Barbecue Festival. Full band, yep, the whole deal. Special guest Bryan Owings on drums—-Bryan not only played with Will and the Bushmen, but he has played with Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, Delbert McClinton, Ray LaMontagne, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section…he’s one of the best drummers around.

I have 9 shows coming up in September. Check out the tour dates page for updates. I’ll be in California, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, New York and New Jersey in September. A broad swath of America for you to choose from. I do aim to please.

Alabama Shows

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I played in Auburn, Alabama last Friday night at the Strutting Duck. It was a great show on a cool outdoor stage. I don’t mean that the weather was cool; I sweated buckets. But it was a fine setting for music. Played Callaghan’s in Mobile on Sunday night and that was also a ton of fun. Thanks to all who made it out, especially folks who traveled to get there.

I spent part of today finishing up the mixes for my next solo CD over at David Henry’s Truetone Studio in Nashville. Sent the album off to Michael Romanowski in San Francisco for mastering. Getting artwork ideas ready.

I am mostly home until the end of the month, when we’ll head west for Strawberry Music Festival!

If you haven’t heard DADDY “For a Second Time”, you can get it here, on the Merch page.

Enjoy the dog days of summer wherever you are.
